Despite all theadvantages of GPT (GUID Partition Table), many still rely on the technologyit’s trying to replace, MBR. So it only makes sense for some users to convertGPT to MBR and use the latter in partitioning their hard drive.
GPT fdisk is a disk partitioning tool loosely modeled on Linux fdisk, but used for modifying GUID Partition Table (GPT) disks. The related FixParts GPT fdisk - Browse /gptfdisk at SourceForge.net. There are various ways to convert GPT to MBR disk, but in our today’s article, I’m going to show you two best ways. Convert GPT to MBR Disk without losing Data. To convert GPT to MBR disk without losing Data, you need a software that is “EaseUs Partition Master“. Unfortunately, this software is not available for free. Apr 03, 2018 Convert MBR disk to GPT style without data loss using Third-party software (like Ease US, Mini tool, AOMEI) Now I will introduce you some software which will convert your disk MBR to GPT or vice versa without losing data. You can use one of them without any hesitation. Keep in mind that this article is not a review of that software. Mbr to gpt free download - MBR, MBR, MBR, and many more programs. Enter to Search. In this post,we’ll discuss the difference between GPT and MBR. We’ll also show you how toconvert GPT to MBR in as few steps as possible.

WhatAre GPT and MBR?
Both GPT and MBRare both methods of partitioning information on a hard drive.
GPT is meant toimprove upon the limitations of MBR including storage limitations. It alsoreduces the risk of file corruption and performs redundancy checks to keep yourdata in place.
But because it’snewer, GPT suffers from compatibility issues with older systems.
So while GPT isseen as the future, some users still prefer MBR over GPT.
Note: You can convert to GPT without data loss provided you back up your files on a separate hard drive before starting.
ConvertUsing Disk Management
You can use Disk Management to convert yourpartition.
Note: The following steps weredone in Windows 10. However, Disk Management should also be available forWindows Vista to Windows 8.1 users.
Open Control Panel. Go to System and Security > Administrative Tools.
A new window willpop up. Open Computer Management.
After ComputerManagement opens, go to the left-hand sidebar. Under Storage, select DiskManagement.
Important! The next steps willrequire you to delete your partitions. If you haven’t backed up your files, nowwould be a good time to do so.
To convert a diskfrom GPT to MBR, every volume would have to be deleted. Right-click a volumeand select Delete Volume.
Do this for allpartitions. Once finished, right-click the disk and select Convert to MBR Disk.
Create newpartitions as needed.
ConvertUsing Command Prompt
The conversionprocess can also be achieved using the CommandPrompt. Remember to backup your files before you proceed.
Open Command Prompt and type DISKPART.
If you’re asked if you’d allow the application to make changes, click Yes. TypeLIST DISK and press Enter.
Take note of the disk number you’d like to convert. Type SELECT DISK X (replacing X with the disk number).
Type CLEANand press Enter. This action will remove all the contents of the disk. So make sure you back your files beforehand.
Then type CONVERT MBR and press Enter. Close Command Prompt after it’s done.
ConvertUsing Third-Party Apps
If you’re not comfortable using Disk Management or Command Prompt, you can convert using third-party software (sometimes referred to as data recovery software).
There are anumber of available options online. You’re going to have to pay for most ofthese solutions but they do promise to convert while keeping your files intact.
Beforedownloading any program, be sure to double-check the brand’s credibility. Dosome research and find feedback from other users. Using an unproven app mightcompromise your computer’s security.
These programs, while not officially endorsed by Windows, are appealing to users for theirsimplicity and ease of use. They could be worth trying out.

About Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk
Master Boot Record (MBR) and GUID Partitioning Table (GPT) are two partition styles. Even though they achieve the mutual goal of separating the information for the operating system, they are very different from one another.
These are 2 main differences between MBR disk and GPT disk:
- Number of partitions: an MBR disk supports at most four primary partitions or three primary partitions and one extended partition while a GPT disk can support up to 128 partitions in Windows.
- Size of partition: the size of a single partition in MBR disk can only reach 2 TB while the largest partition supported by GPT disk is 18 EB.
Note: Many other outstanding features can be found in GPT disk. For more information, please read this post MBR VS GPT ( Focus on Difference and How to Convert Safely).
But these aren’t the only reasons why so many users wish to convert from MBR disk to GPT disk. One of the other amazing features the GPT disk also offers is the ability to store multiple copies of the data within the operating system.
If the data is overwritten or corrupted, the GPT disk can recover the data, so the OS will function again. In contrast, the MBR disk does not have this feature and thus unable to easily recover corrupt or overwritten data.
This explains why a growing number of users would like to convert MBR disk to GPT disk as soon as possible. But how to convert MBR disk to GPT disk without data loss? We suggest using MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition.
Note: The Free Edition can only convert a data disk to GPT. If users want to convert a system disk to GPT, they need to upgrade to an advanced edition.
How to Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk
Importance:
If users are dealing with the system disk, do the followings in advance in case of any accidents after the conversion.
- Create a system image or back up the whole system disk.
If there are multiple operating systems, please confirm which operating system needs booting from GPT disk, and then boot from it to do the conversion. MiniTool Partition Wizard is not responsible for the rest operating systems not booting after the conversion. Do it at your own risk.
The downloading and installation process of MiniTool Partition Wizard is easy to finish, even for inexperienced users. Now, let’s see how to do:
Note: MiniTool Partition Wizard can help users convert an MBR disk containing Windows to GPT, provided that the System & Boot & Active partitions are located on the same disk. But if users want to boot from the GPT disk successfully, UEFI mode should be supported and enabled.
Step 1. Choose the MBR disk that users want to convert.
Step 2. Select Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk function through following three ways.
- Click it under the Convert Disk list.
- Choose it from the drop-down list of Disk menu at the top.
- Right-click the target disk and choose it from the pop-up list.
Step 3. Click on Apply button in order to carry out pending operations.
Step 4. Choose Yes in the pop-up prompt window to start converting a disk from MBR to GPT.
Step 5. Click OK button at the end of conversion to end the process.
